About Nuutajarvi and Iittala

The Nuutajarvi glass factory was founded in 1793 by Jacob Wilhelm de Pont and Harald Furnhjelm. The location was chosen because of the wooded area. The wood was important for the firing of the glass factory. Nuutajarvi merged with iittala in 1988, and this is where Oiva Toikka’s glass birds were made for forty years.

Since 1881, Iittala has strived to provide inspiration for a more beautiful and enjoyable life. The company started out as a glass factory in the Finnish village of Iittala. It has since developed into an internationally renowned brand that has played a decisive role in defining a Scandinavian lifestyle.

In the early years they produced glassware by blowing and pressing. This was done on the basis of continental models that were brought to the factory by glassblowers. At the beginning of the twentieth century, Iittala was one of the first companies to move from decorative tableware to tableware that combined function and form with progressive Scandinavian design.

However, Iittala’s breakthrough came in the dawn of modernism and functionalism in the 1930s and 1940s. This is partly due to the now legendary collaborations with design pioneers such as Alvar and Aino Aalto, Kaj Franck and Tapio Wirkkala. These designers helped shape Iittala’s design philosophy.

Making objects that, due to their progressive, functional and at the same time beautiful design, become timeless and will never be discarded.

Their premise is that good design should not only be well-considered and functional, but also be available to everyone.

This vase is about 50 years old, for that reason we ask you to view the photos carefully. This will give you a good impression of the condition of the candle holder. We also have other vases available.
