Stelton

Stellan and Carton two friends who created one of the most famous design brands in Denmark: Stelton. The name originated by merging their given names. Their trading company originally sold sports shoes and furniture. The shops really got going when they heard about a small factory in Fårevejle in Denmark called “Dansk Rustfrit”.

Dansk Rustfrit produced popular serving parts in stainless steel. After entering into an agreement with Dansk Rustfrit, Stelton launched a sauce bowl in stainless steel. This sauce bowl went like hotcakes at the Danish hardware stores. The same bowls also proved to be a great success outside Denmark.

Stelton’s products are typically Scandinavian design, functional and simplistic. One of Stelton’s most famous series is the Cylinda line. A simple drawing of a teapot on a napkin at a family dinner. That was the starting point for Arne Jacobsen’s iconic tableware design. After three years of intensive development, the Cylinda line was launched in 1967. The cylindrical characteristic profile was avant-garde at the time. Today, the series is recognized as a symbol of classic, timeless style.
