The Iittala Arkipelago candleholder 225 mm by the artist Timo Sarpaneva was introduced in the 80s. In the decades that followed, the candle holder became a fixture in modern Finnish design. The glass object with its triangular shape that looks like ice, adds a unique and elegant element to any interior. Design Iittala Arkipelago candlestick

Timo Sarpaneva designed the Festivo candle holder a few years earlier. Originally as a wine glass for itself. The contents of an entire bottle of wine had to fit into a single glass. The result was an icy glass with a rough structure, the chalice and base of which were blown separately from each other. When the feet of the glasses were separated from the chalices in the factory, the idea was born to use them as a candlestick – thus the prototype of a new classic was born. The Festivo series has been in production since 1967 and is rightfully an icon in the Finnish interior.

For this Arkipelago candlestick, he was again inspired by the design of the Festivo candlestick. This time with a smooth outside, but with the same rough look on the inside of the candlestick.
