Design
The world famous designer Alvar Aalto combined simple designs with great craftsmanship. He created iconic design pieces that are both functional and sculptural. The asymmetrical wavy shape that Aalto designed for Iittala caused a furore during the 1937 World Exhibition in Paris. Each Aalto vase is unique and inspired by the thousands of Finnish lakes. The Iittala glass factory produces the vases in a number of steps. The glass is mouth blown, then cut manually and finally polished several times.
