Markku Juhani Saolo is a Finnish designer and glass artist. He is known for his impressive glass works made with different techniques. Markku Salo graduated in 1974 as a visual artist from the Kankaanpää School of Art. Until 1983, Salo worked at Salora first as a designer of televisions and sound equipment and then as head of the design department. In 1983 he switched to glass design and became a designer for Iittala.

Markku Salo uses different techniques in his glass art. You can think of blowing glass in a metal mesh. He also made use of the pâte de verre melting method, in which fine glass crumbs are used.
